12 deaths ( so far ) and 31 wounded. This Major Hasan deserves the death penalty, period. There is NO excuse/reasoning in the world to even come close to justifying these actions, and no other penalty other than death is a sufficient punishment.
I can't even begin to express how much this individual makes me sick. It's like having 43 brothers go down in a hailstorm of bullets in your own house where it's supposed to be safe, courtesy of the 44th bastard brother.

Getting the death sentence wouldn't bother me. But I want him to suffer in a prison of his "peers" i.e. Ft Leavenworth etc. first. Eliminating him certainly will bring closure to a lot of people, but I think it's almost getting off easy without some real suffering.
The whole damn thing is disgusting. There have reports almost humanizing his tensions. It's all b.s. He was not a line duty officer, if he didn't want to go over seas, there are numerous ways to get out of a deployment i.e. harming yourself, etc. Local reports from family in the DC burbs say he wanted out of the service, again other ways to get out. Supposedly he was picked on because of ethnicity, I doubt it was that. People with his background are treasures in this war from interpreters, intel analysts, etc. I have a feeling he was being persecuted because of his traitorous views he was airing out.
Then today we have another shooting in Orlando, probably a low grade copy cat. Ridiculous, disgusting, and heartbreaking to say the least.
RIP to the fallen and my thoughts and prayers are out to the survivors and the families.

Such a sad story for sure. I have heard stories through the American media that this will now shine a negative light on the 2000 or so Muslim practicing service men. I would hope not, i would hope it would bring the forces closer together, as a whole. From what i hear and based on the already existing social stigman, a lot of service people are scared or ashamed to come out to their superiors in the military that they are suffering from mental illness. Here in my country (canada) our top General is taking more steps to eliminating the fear of coming out with a mental illness. No excuse for what this American Army officer has done, but still, it's sad that he could not seek help.

He was actually supposed to BE the help... he was a psychiatrist that worked with people suffering from PTSD. Which serves to further baffle the mind.

I guess at some sort of conference among his colleges, he discussed the extremest perception of the Karan. A few PhD's in attendance commented and kind of sounded alarms in their minds, but apparently not for the American military high command.

I think Lt. Gen. Roméo Dallaire coming out and being frank with issues related to Rwanda was a huge step there and abroad.

Problem is as a member of the noncombatant military, he wasn’t being sent (deployed) to kill anybody, especially his Muslim brothers. Further more physicians do not have a Line commission, thus they do not and cannot command or direct line units to conduct military actions to engage an enemy force.

By virtue of and pursuant to the authority vested in me by Title I of the Selective Service Act of 1948 (62 Stat. 604), and as President of the United States, the following definitions are hereby prescribed for the purposes of section 6(j) of the said Act:
1. The term "noncombatant service" shall mean (a) service in any unit of the armed forces which is unarmed at all times; (b) service in the medical department of any of the armed forces, wherever performed; or (c) any other assignment the primary function of which does not require the use of arms in combat; provided that such other assignment is acceptable to the individual concerned and does not require him to bear arms or to be trained in their use.
2. The term "noncombatant training" shall mean any training which is not concerned with the study, use, or handling of arms or weapons.

Yeah, I think that was very brave, it shows that even the highest up on the chain of command can have issues, and that it's ok to seek help for it. Dallaire saw unspeakable things in Rwanda, and felt that he must take the blame for what went on in that country, but thankfully he is now doing better with that. Dallaire now serves in the Canadian Senate and is an advocate for helping servicemen in distress. Along with Canada's Chief of defense, hopefully things will get better here, as well as other military's that may have this problem[/color]
